In our centenary year, Webbers was thrilled to partner with Young Lives vs Cancer as our nominated charity for the year. The drive to support such an important cause led us to an unforgettable fundraising event that took a literal leap of faith.
Thanks to the enthusiastic persuasion of Katherine Sawyer, Young Lives vs Cancer's South West Fundraising & Engagement Manager, we were able to recruit eight brave volunteers from across our 13 offices. After one weather-related setback in September, our team finally took to the skies on Sunday, October 13th at Dunkeswell Aerodrome near Honiton in Devon.
Gary Holder, our Company Secretary, and one of the intrepid eight, shared his thoughts on the experience: "It was an incredible day, and every one of the jumpers was so pleased they took that leap of faith. More importantly, we’ve managed to raise over £6,600 for Young Lives vs Cancer, and that’s a huge accomplishment. A massive thank you to my fellow jumpers for their courage and to everyone who supported us."
Gary was joined by Julie Deacon, Sarina Childs, Kirsty Howard, James Phillips, Sharon Johnson, Kerrie Parker, and Finlay Payne, each of whom committed to the challenge to support the vital work done by Young Lives vs Cancer. The day was full of adrenaline, nerves, and ultimately triumph as each jumper soared through the skies, knowing they were making a difference in the lives of families facing childhood cancer.
Katherine Sawyer, who cheered from the ground, reflected on the event: "It was my great pleasure to go along and cheer on these eight amazing people as they took on a challenge that many of us wouldn’t dare to! They all did so well, and the amount they have raised will allow Young Lives vs Cancer to help so many families who need our support. We simply couldn’t do what we do without the support of wonderful people like Webbers."
The day was more than just a skydive; it was a celebration of teamwork, community, and courage. To mark our centenary year with such a bold adventure felt fitting—a testament to the kind of spirit we have at Webbers. We believe in giving back, in taking risks to support those who need it most, and in having a little fun while doing so.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed, cheered us on, and made this fundraiser possible. Together, we’ve raised over £6,600—funds that will go directly towards helping families during some of the most challenging times they’ll ever face. It’s a reminder that when we work together, we can achieve incredible things.
